30/11/06 - I Have Done It!

I have registered my base URL with Supanames (partnered with 123-Reg) and a forwarding URL with 1 and 1.

I have just paid £32.88 including VAT for the Supanames package which includes a free domain name and good quality Linux web hosting. I have always used Supanames and will continue to do so. There are some restrictions on the account but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. More

30/11/06 - Searching For UK Domain Names

I need a .co.uk domain name as I will be building a satellite navigation site with UK prices and UK affiliate networks.

The best search tool to see if a domain has been taken is at Nominet. They are the registry for .co.uk names and they have the most complete list of .co.uk around.

I will be using the keyword research tool from the last lecture to form domain name suggestions with "sat nav" in it. More

30/11/06 - Give It A Name!

In lecture 10, I said that the phrase "sat nav" gets 2,150,000 results in Google. The phrase "satellite navigation" gets 34,000,000.

So what we are looking for is a list of search phrases to develop a name from, using "sat nav" as a base.

There is an excellent piece of software (and it is free) that you can use to build keyword lists. More

30/11/06 - My Niche

I have talked about how to find a niche and ensure it is profitable.

Now it is time to find mine.

The aim of the demonstration site is to be a profitable site. I want you to use it as a test site - to explore it and see the tactics I have used. I want the general public to use it as a shopping site. I want them to choose me over anyone else. More

29/11/06 - Progress Report One

It may seem a bit early to create a progress report but why not start now?

So far in the lectures, we have covered how to identify niches and how to, in turn, identify if they are profitable.

Next I shall be deciding upon the topic for my new demo website and the process of how to set up a web host.

29/11/06 - Giveth With One Hand...

Not so much a lecture this one!

If you like what you see here, why not help me out? More

29/11/06 - Is There Revenue In Those Niches?

In Lecture 5 we looked at how to derive a niche.

Lecture 6 is all about extending this further and looking at what makes a good niche.

The example that I used last time was inkjet printers. I will continue using that example now. More

29/11/06 - David Fiske Statistics

I have now implemented statistics on this website.

This means I can get an overview of my visitors - where they come from and what they searched for to get here. I can also see which countries send the most traffic.

So why bother? More

29/11/06 - School Starts Now!

OK, here we go. This is where the learning starts.

Before we can do anything creative (or fun), we have to find an opportunity.

Opportunities exist everywhere and anywhere. They can be small opportunities or huge ones.

In terms of this project, we are looking for a niche. More

28/11/06 - What Is In A Name?

There is a Dilbert sketch on the DVD (Dilbert Box Set) where Dilbert is tasked with the difficult operation of coming up with the name for a product that does not yet exist. Neither does it's purpose.

I am going to do things correctly here and leave the name until later. I have to find a suitable market with suitable advertisers in it first. More

28/11/06 - Project Aims

It makes sense to start this project by defining a list of aims and objectives.

After all, it is these that will help drive the project, and these that the project outcomes are based upon.

Here are the aims: More

28/11/06 - Project Overview

This project is simply a demonstration of how a money making website can be set up and what is involved.

There are many people making serious buckets of cash from the Internet all over the world. Such people make their money from selling documentation of techniques and so forth. More

27/11/06 - What Is This All About?

Welcome to the first lecture from David Fiske. Unsurprisingly, I am he!

I graduated in 2006 from Huddersfield University. Since University, I have worked for several large companies and now offer consultancy, primarily in the areas of IT and logistics. Whilst I graduated with a Logistics and Supply Chain Management degree, I have been heavily involved with IT since 1999.

I have created this website as a starting point for a project I shall be undertaking. More
