I have registered my base URL with Supanames (partnered with 123-Reg) and a forwarding URL with 1 and 1.

I have just paid £32.88 including VAT for the Supanames package which includes a free domain name and good quality Linux web hosting. I have always used Supanames and will continue to do so. There are some restrictions on the account but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for.
 
I have heard good things of 123-Reg who apparently let you buy a domain name and then let you buy the web space afterwards if you need to.

1 and 1 are regarded as the crème de la crème of the web hosting world! They have a lot of professional customers and pride themselves on offer superb hosting. However, their prices reflect this.

Having said that, to buy a domain name with forwarding for 2 years will set you back £4.68 including VAT! That is a complete bargain and I urge you to find all the fivers you have and spend them on domain names!!

On a more serious note though, if you are starting out or want ultra cheap web hosting, use Supanames. They allow upgrades at any time during the hosting so if you decide you need more oomph, they can sort that for you.

If you want the 'Tesco Finest' web hosting equivalent, use 1 and 1.

Enough about that now. My domain name and web hosting should become active by the beginning of next week.
