Which Is Better - PPC or SEO?

In a Harry Hill style - FIGHT!

But which is better - SEO or PPC?

SEO is often seen as a long term approach. Given months or even years, it is possible to be seen on the first page of search engine results for select terms.

PPC means that the website you built yesterday can get traffic today.

SEO is cheaper but slower. It usually costs you in time, whereas PPC costs you in cool hard cash.

PPC usually takes a while to get right. If you have a huge budget, you can go after the juiciest keywords like "loans" or "car insurance". For most new affiliates, the budget is limited so they end up bidding on "loans for elderly people" or "car insurance four years no claims" which gets significantly less traffic.

I prefer SEO but I would love the speed of a good PPC campaign. I've dabbled in PPC before and have yet to strike a balance between too much cost and not enough traffic. For me, SEO is easier.

SEO is about networking, creating fresh content regularly and about keyword targeting. PPC is focused on conversion rates, ROI, keywords and cost.

I believe that PPC is a short term approach and SEO is a long term approach.

But what do you think? Post your comment below on which you prefer. It would be nice to get a snapshot of what affiliates think.
