This is the first time I've seen this on the Amazon site so I presume it's fairly new.
With Amazon Prime, you pay an annual subscription fee but then get some good perks. Here's a run-down of what you would get.
The main perk would be No Minimum Order and free Unlimited FREE One-Day Delivery. Great if you are ordering a £3 book on a regular basis (e.g. if you were reselling the book or giving it away). Great if you want to dropship using Amazon as you can ship from your location 1-2 days after you place your order.
Express Delivery for £4.49 per item (delivery before 1pm) is another perk though if you are getting next day delivery for free, it's probably not worth forking out £4.49 for an extra speedy delivery.
Live in London or Birmingham? Get Evening Delivery for £7.49 per item.
The other main perk is that once you sign up for this, you can then add 4 other accounts to it so long as they all live at your address. So if you live with your mother and aunty Doris, if they both have Amazon accounts, you can tag them onto your subscription for free and take advantage of the perks.
Is it worth it though?
That's the question you have to ask yourself. Do you need a timed delivery? Do you order a lot from Amazon and pay more than £49 a year on postage with them? If the answer to these is yes, this might suit you.
If you generally take advantage of Super Saver delivery and always manage to have more than £15 in your basket, this is probably not suited to you.
It's nice to see Amazon take a stance and offer timed delivery (there's a lot of buzz about timed deliveries at the moment) but charging £49 a year seems a bit steep to me, especially when Super Saver Delivery suits me fine.

Freebies make me work harder! If you send it, I'll blog about it - unless it's rude :-)

I think they would need to offer some more incentives for the customers to sign up, like exclusive offers, different prices etc. £49 a year isn't much if you make frequent and small orders which don't qualify for the free delivery, but for people like me who spend around £30 a month on Amazon, it isn't really appealing
