Friday, 14 December 2007
There are 11 days to Christmas, 6 weekdays, 2 weekends and for internet trading, about half a week to get your Christmas order in. Compare Sat Nav has been updated in time for the busy weeks ahead, with prices being pushed down again!
A lot of retailers have adopted the 88 pence strategy which seems odd. The 99 pence strategy is to mark everything ending in 99 pence so it looks cheaper - £19.99 instead of £20. It's a proven strategy in widespread use.
Tesco adopted the 97 pence strategy which in essence is 2 pence lower, but again appears significantly cheaper. For example, £19.97 looks far cheaper than £19.99, which in turn looks cheaper than £20.
The 88 pence strategy just seems to have come from nowhere and suggests to me that retailers are struggling to compete with each other and are having to resort to shaving pennies off the price.
We'll see when the January sales hit.
