Sometimes a site can outgrow itself. Perhaps the navigation has become too complex or the subject material is no longer in line with the original aims.
In line with my last post (Web Development Lesson Care Of The Music Industry), I've got another practical example only this time with different videos!
Channel 5 launched back in 1997 and then rebranded in 2002 as Five. Like other TV stations, they've seen the birth of new channels.
Recognising a demand for quality American programmes, Five launched Five US:
Five just wasn't big enough to satisfy the demand for programmes like CSI, House, etc. so they moved the reruns to Five US. Five still shows these shows but if you want more, head over to Five US.
The moral here is that you shouldn't be afraid to let your site grow. There's all kinds of ways to integrate content over multiple domains. Plus, when it comes to doing that deal of a lifetime, you have multiple sites with multiple traffic streams for each.
Fun Things About Five US

The very best programme on Five US has to be Whose Line Is It Anyway? US:

Traffic Explosion
Hi, Interesting view. I am a big fan of five US. Nothing beats CSI. The problem with this analogy though is that five can only broadcast 24 hours a day. It therefore makes sense that they have a multitude of channels, five us, five life, five so that they can cover all the ground they want to.
With a website, we do not have these constraints. The only circumstance under which a 7 item navigation [this in my opinion is the ideal number] will not work is if your niche is too broad. In this case there is a problem with niche selection. Otherwise, in a tightly focussed niche,if you find that your sites navigation is just ot cutting it, you need to redesign your site
Thank you
