Camcorder Price Comparison

Since I switched the back-end of Compare Sat Nav to an automatic price comparison (freeing up an incredibly large amount of time) I've wanted to launch something similar. Enter Compare Camcorder Deals!

It uses the same sort of front-end and the same back-end as CSN, just a different data file. It's taken a couple of days to swap the front end to read 'camcorders' instead of 'sat nav' and it's taken (and still is taking) a long time to compile the initial data file.
 
The problem with this new site is that I expect it to follow the seasonality trend that Compare Sat Nav follows. That is, there is very little traffic in the summer but quite a bit more in Winter.

What I need is a site that doesn't have seasonality. I'm donning my thinking cap as we speak...

Dave, I really enjoy your blog. You are very open and honest and I appreciate that.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around using a datafeed to produce a site like yours.

However, you say that you are compiling the initial data... does that mean you aren't using a datafeed? Are you gathering all of that information by hand?

My next campaign is going to be a mini-site using a datafeed as the source (easier said than done) any advice you can give me to help get me started would be great!

The first part is time consuming and is simply a process of matching products from different retailers. Anyone who has worked with data feeds will understand that merchants don't help by offering different notations. For example, a TomTom Go 920 is different in a price comparison script to a TomTom G920.

Once that's sorted, the script can then update the prices on a daily basis.

If you are looking to get into the price comparison market, http://www.pricetapestry.com is a great starting point. I started with that and now have the knowledge, understanding and ability to build a more complex solution.
