The Taxman Wants A Share

It's that time again when the tax return has to be submitted. I was expecting a paper form but this year I received a one page letter encouraging me to submit my return online.

I did this last year and it was a breeze compared to the paper form. I've tapped in my rough figures and it's done all my calculations for me instantly. that's when I discovered the tax man wants a fairly large chunk of my earnings!

It's not a problem as I can pay the bill. It's just that I forgot to include tax in my calculations throughout the year to determine how rich I was (or not as the case is)!

On the plus side, I've been more meticulous on the paperwork side of things this year. I print off invoices as soon as I get them and keep a track of all me comings and goings in Microsoft Money.

This means I just have to pull up one report to show all my income versus all my expenses.

In previous years, my paperwork left a lot to be desired so I've had to spend a day or two going through everything to make sure it has been right. This tax year has been about doing it correctly as I've been going along, rather than piling it all up until April.

Having said that, I'm now waiting for Commission Junction to send out the invoice for March before I can submit the return - and start paying the tax (in a handy instalment form!)

I was expected the full paper form this year but like you did it online last year and found it a lot easier. I started half way through the last tax year on Microsoft Money and am promising myself to be meticulous this year!

I've just spent the last couple of months, trying, to get everything in order. for some reason every year I think I have everything in order until I get the call from my accountant asking me for more info. Always the same. May have a look at doing it online for a change - may save me some money which is always good!
