I love magazines but I've yet to come across one that fits my affiliate marketing lifestyle. I've tried NMA a couple of times but it's too generic for my liking, failing to cover topics that are important to me.
What I would like is a monthly magazine just for the UK affiliate marketing scene. I don't think this is out of the realms of possibility but perhaps there isn't enough demand for it.
Here's what I'd like to see in it.
News
A roundup of the month's news covering all aspects such as tracking issues, new brands, amazing promotions and incentives, etc.
In-Depth Articles
I would like to see three or four in-depth articles that cover major issues (cookie dropping, network-affiliate disagreements, etc.). It would be nice to read about issues from the people involved, ensuring factual relevancy. Whilst the A4U Forum offers coverage of such topics, it also allows for debate and discussion which can result in the blurring of facts. This isn't a criticism (that's what a forum is all about) just an observation.
Affiliate Interviews
Similar to what affiliates and networks already do, it would be interesting to read the stories about people. I would be hoping for articles about prominent figures in the industry along with the rising stars.
Q & A
A staple of any magazine has to be the Q&A section. Whilst this is dealt with on the forum, it would be great to see more in-depth questions with a range of panellists who could answer them.
Site Doctor
A site could be deconstructed and re-built (virtually) to maximise potential earning capabilities. This would be quite interesting as it could fuse someone's efforts with the knowledge and know-how from industry experts.
Network News
A major asset would be the network news section. Here I would imagine each network could contribute details of what's new, what's happening and what has stopped. Not everyone receives closure or newsletter emails. Not everyone checks the forum.
It would also be interesting to hear a summary of what's going on in each network and what they are doing to help affiliates. For example, I've noticed CJ now regularly comment on A4U and Tradedoubler have just replied to my query from March. In these cases, it would be great to hear what TD have in the pipeline for ensuring quicker responses and what else CJ have in the pipeline for connecting with it's UK audience.
Summary
I know the A4U Forum deals with a lot of this to an extent but I prefer hard copies of information like this. Also, by publishing a magazine, all bias has to be removed so articles would be factually relevant and balanced, resulting in a fair summary of hot issues in the industry.
I'm off to start a publishing house. Who wants to be a features editor?

I prefer hard copies of information
Agreed, i'm often printing things off and scribbling notes about things.
I guess its just too niche for a major magazine publisher.
