I'm back! Me and the wife (!!!) have returned from our honeymoon to the sunny Caribbean. Pics will follow as I'm currently wading through the 5,000 emails (mostly spam) to find any relevant messages.
I've also just discovered that whilst I was sunning myself, someone else has used my credit card to do the same :-(
Funny thing is, it's a card I rarely use online - 10 times in a year, only at major companies. Together with the fact that I'm Mr Security Conscious, I have no idea how it has happened, other than some funny business at a supermarket or a server somewhere along the line has been compromised.
Luckily, the credit card company were fast to put a stop to it so once the perpetrator (who I believe resides in the UK) had purchased some coach tickets, airline tickets and paid a utility bill, the card was blocked.
A fraud team will now investigate and I've been told I'm not liable for any transactions I did not make so I'm not some much angry and annoyed as curious as to how it happened. Who is to blame? When were the card details stolen? So many questions and probably no answers :-(
Anyway, back to the emails :-(
Honeymoon pics to follow.

Hi David .. welcome back!
If it makes you feel any better, when my card was used at an online casino last summer, the credit card company (who were brilliant sorting it out) said, "don't take it personally, it happens all the time".
Apparently, in my case at least, the thieves "just keep trying numbers until they get a match" - and have never seen or had access to your card details. I guess some kind of script does that for them?

@David: I can't fault my flatmate too much; after all, he was nursing a pretty bad hangover ;)

Jason
Congrats on the wedding and the great honeymoon!
That's a big bummer about the stolen identity; but at least the credit card company was on top of it. We hear about card numbers being stolen directly from companies, so maybe that's how it happened.
I've had a credit card physically stolen from my flat (my flat was broken into while I was away on holiday) and the credit card company called me to let me know that it happened - the card company actually told me before my flatmate called to tell me!
