UPDATE: Why Should I Take The Blame For Unauthorised Voucher Code Usage?

Remember my moan about how I was penalised other affiliates promoting a voucher code that they shouldn't be? Well since then I've heard nothing from the agency managing the program. I sent them the link and they said they would read the article but I've not heard any comments from them.

Anyway, a second sale was generated for them last week and alas, it too was cancelled. Different reason this time:

Dear Affiliate we were unable to process some of your transactions due to you not being the last referrer before the sale. Please contact xxx @ xxx.com if you wish to discuss this further. Kind regards, xxx
They're having a right laugh now!

I'm sure they've got a big book of excuses lined up ready for sales that amount to a reasonable sum of commission. Or at least that is what it seems.

For the first time ever in my affiliate career I find myself threatening a merchant! Similar to threats made by merchants to affiliates, I'm imposing a "3 strikes and you're out" policy on this particular merchant.

Perhaps it's fluke that out of the "small amount" of such transactions that get reversed by this merchant (as I have been advised), 100% of my commissions have been clawed back. Ironic how another merchant on the same site has credited me with dozens of sales in the same period without any cancellations. Funny how the world works.

So I have emailed them and told them that I will sample one more sale. If that is clawed back (place your bets now), I'll walk away. Other affiliates reckon I should walk now and not give them a chance but I'm daft.

I've emailed the agency handling this account a link to this post and await their comments but suspect I'll not hear anything from them.

Along with placing bets on whether transaction number 3 will be reversed, any ideas on what the next excuse might be?

I've emailed the network as I feel they should investigate how many cancellations are actually being made. Not sure if it will help but worth a shot.

It seems there are a fair few ways unscrupulous affiliates can sabotage your business and little you can do about it. Things need to be tightened up a little imo. Good luck getting it sorted :)

The merchant's affiliate is basically a marketplace for web distribution; they put an offer on the table and expect take up will be worthwhile. If most affiliates go on to sprint a brand regardless (most will), the merchant has no reason to change, the market is working well for them.
