Thanks Sainsbury's For The Birthday Present

It's a closely guarded secret by my birthday is just around the corner and happened to (nearly) coincide with a delivery from Sainsbury's. You may recall the launch of the programme on Affiliate Window I blogged about here.

To racap, as part of the launch there were three competitions. The easiest was simply to promote Sainsbury's some how. Faster than you could say "there's a freebie in it for you", I added affiliate links to my site and blogged about their offerings. To my surprise, I was the first to claim a prize and had the staggering chart to choose from:

  • Sony Cybershot Camera
  • iPod Nano 16GB
  • Dunlop Golf Package
  • GHD Hair Straighteners
  • Portable Hard Drive
  • Le Creuset Casserole
  • Morphy Richards Bread Maker
  • Mr Tickle
  • DeLonghi Filter Coffee Maker
  • MPW Salt & Pepper Grinders
  • Harry Potter Cluedo
  • Football Beanbag
  • Pedometer With CD
  • Wicker Garden Tool Set
  • Jamie Oliver Champagne Flutes
  • 5 Jamie Oliver Mugs
I opted for the Morphy Richards Fastbake Cooltouch Breadmaker which arrived today.

Breadmaker in a box

So why did opt for a breadmaker? Firstly, why not? Secondly, we've thought about getting a bread maker before so when this was an option, I bit their hand off! I vaguely remember this being on the wedding gift list (or was cut at the last minute). Lastly, it's got to be healthier (and fresher) as I know what goes into my loaf and when it was baked.

It's a robust looking machine as you'd expect from Morphy Richards. The instructions / recipe booklet is comprehensive and comes with loads of suggestions on creations I can concoct. It even comes with a cup - not anything special you may say but it's got American measurements on the side. I've been trying to translate American units into metric for a recipe I've got but got confused. Not any more ;-)

Tech specs for reference: 600W, bakes 500g, 680g and 900g loaves. 12 settings are on offer and it can also make cakes, pizza dough and jam! There's a recipe in there for hot cross buns too! Features a digitial display and a big peep hole to nosey on the freshly baked bread. Comes with a measuring cup, measuring spoons and recipe/instruction book.

Does it work? I'll test it out over the weekend (need to buy yeast!) and let you know. Watch as this blog turns into the ramblings of Chef Dave!

Congratulations David. Hope you get some more wins in 2009. There has been some good incentives in the travel affiliate arena recently.

The first loaf was a success! Mixed the ingredients in the wrong order so it had a floury corner but apart from that, it tasted good!
