Many thanks to LEGO who delivered what has to be one of the best sets currently available, set 10196; the LEGO Grand Carousel. It's my prize for their Christmas 2009 competition!

I have always been a LEGO fanatic and there comes an age when most sadly stop having fun with the bricks. That is until you win a box of the stuff :-D
Funny how things come flooding back to you when you do something you haven't done for a while. That said, there's loads of new bricks and colours I don't remember seeing before.
I'm currently looking at taking around 9 hours to build the moving carousel which should look like this when I've finished:
If you think you're too grown up for LEGO (really? Is that possible?), they also have a snazzy CAD tool where you can design and build virtual models. For masterpieces, LEGO will even send you a personalised box, instructions and all the parts required to build your very own model.
Here's my attempt at Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas cruise ship in LEGO:

Not the best but not bad for a first attempt I reckon. At a mere £300 though, it's more an investment than a toy ;-)
Anyway, I digress! thanks LEGO for my prize; especially to Frank over at LEGO USA for keeping me up to date. The LEGO affiliate program is available on Linkshare and Mumtaz, the account manager, is very helpful and approachable.

@Darren - Like the big kid I am, I have made it and it works too! Took quite a while to build the 3,000+ brick model but it kept me quiet for ages :-D
