You are here: Home > Running An Affiliate Business > Spring Cleaning
Monday, 20 February 2012
This post was probably better suited to January 2012 but it's been a busy start to the year that I'm only now getting around to a spring clean. I try and have a spring clean of my business each year so as to weed out the rot and to factor in new opportunities.
Last year I started focussing my efforts on a couple of websites rather than spending a small amount of time on many. For me this seems to be working quite well. Certain aspects have become monotonous and "samey" but that should be addressed this year.
Last year I started to refocus on travel having let that slip since the Sunshine affiliate program launch incentive that first sparked my interest in the area. It's a difficult area as travel seems to be full of indecisive customers! That leads to lots of research, lots of clicks and far fewer conversions. Nevertheless, it's on the agenda for this year as a field I'd like to expand and hopefully finally crack.
Also on the agenda is to revamp a few of my sites that I have let slip. I learned a while back that automation helps release me from many monotonous tasks and last year I discovered the benefits of outsourcing which is something I'm looking at doing again this year.
Other than that, life as an affiliate marketer (or as a "performance marketer" as I think we're now called) is pretty much like it has been. There seems to be less chatter and the familiar faces seem to be less frequently seen and heard now so perhaps this is a sign that the industry is no longer what it used to be.
Food for thought.
I'll close with a holiday snap from a well deserved holiday (if I do say so myself) aboard Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Seas around the Canary Islands earlier this month. Expect a cruise reviews website very soon ;-)
